Research creates solutions for society – but putting them into practice requires investment.

So AAU brought together more than 260 participants - startup companies, investors, foundations, experts and partners - for the Aalborg Investor Summit in AAU Innovate on 15 May.

The event is a kind of annual summit for investors and the region's most promising entrepreneurs, and its importance for the business community in Northern Jutland cannot be underestimated.

"The Investor Summit is a crucial piece of the North Jutland startup ecosystem. This is where relationships are built, ideas are formed and the growth opportunities of the future get their crucial initial support," says Mads Bang, Innovation Director at Aalborg University.

Investments are a societal obligation

AAU has a tradition of collaborating closely with the wider world, and the university has taken significant steps towards developing research with commercial potential.

But it requires more support from outside if we are to boost the research-driven innovation in Northern Jutland and avoid a situation of promising technologies going nowhere. Such is the opinion of investor Morten Lindblad, who took part in the Aalborg Investor Summit.

"Those of us who can build companies have an obligation to society. It is up to us to exploit the enormous value that universities create – and we must act now," says Morten Lindblad.

Value to society

Mads Bang is delighted that so many people took part in the Investor Summit. He hopes that the startups' presentations will lead to collaboration and investments that can help realize the business ideas - and make a difference.

"The Investor Summit is clear proof of how we – in close collaboration with investors and the business community – can translate research into concrete solutions that create value and address society's major challenges," says Mads Bang.
